The Reason: Strongheart House
A portion of the profits from the sale of my jewelry goes to the Strongheart House.
Here’s the information from the Strongheart Fellowship website:
Strongheart House - to be opened in early 2009- is a home and center of healing, learning, and excellence for exceptional young people either displaced or orphaned by war or other circumstance.
Strongheart House is located in a once-beautiful former guesthouse for visiting doctors in Robertsport, Liberia, a lovely beach town on the west coast of Africa. It was abandoned during years of civil war but its structure and faded beauty are intact. The area is now secure, peaceful, and revitalized. Over the next several months, the house is being renovated by teams of volunteers. It will be completely off grid and online - utilizing all-green technology.
Residents of Strongheart House have all expenses paid while living at the house and will attend our in-house Strongheart School. Innovative thought leaders and changemakers from around the world are invited to visit Strongheart House to learn and teach about crucial issues and challenges faced by the Strongheart Fellows and the community in which they live. Ongoing think-tanks, working groups, and salons bring a continuous influx of dynamic people and innovative projects into the House.
The first seven Strongheart House residents have been identified. They are exceptional young Liberians who have been living as refugees in neighboring countries. They will move to the Strongheart House in the fall and begin the Fellowship rogram. The inaugural Strongheart Fellow, Lovetta Conto, is among them - along with Georgia, Emmanuel, Gabriel, Grace, Elizabeth, and Charity Freeman - a family of six orphaned refugees currently living in Ghana..
I’ve been dreaming of this for years – a place that I can call home. I’ll eventually be living there with other young people from all over the world – all Strongheart Fellows.
Groups of volunteers are working to make the house ready for us to move into. If you want to be part of this – or help us through a monthly sponsorship for house expenses – click here.
